Charlie Morley has been a self-taught lucid dreamer since the age of 17 and a practicing Buddhist for the past 10 years, after taking refuge with Akong Tulku Rinpoche. In 2008 at the age of 25 Charlie started teaching lucid dreaming within the context of Tibetan Buddhism at the request of his mentor and well known meditation instructor Rob Nairn.
Soon after he started teaching, Charlie received the traditional Tibetan Buddhist “authorisation to teach” from his teacher Lama Yeshe Rinpoche, which was not only a great honour to have received, but also a valuable seal of approval from such a highly regarded Lama.
In 2010 Charlie and Rob began to create and pioneer a new holistic approach to lucid dreaming and conscious sleeping called Mindfulness of Dream & Sleep.
Since then Charlie has run lucid dreaming workshops and Mindfulness of Dream & Sleep retreats around the UK, Europe, Africa and America. He has featured on BBC Radio 4 and lectured at Goldsmiths University, Cape Town Medical School, the Royal Geographical Society and douzens of Buddhist centres and retreats. In 2011 gave the ever first talk on lucid dreaming at one of the well-known TED conferences in San Diego.
In late 2011 Charlie received the support of Lama Yeshe Rinpoche to begin teaching a new set of workshops around the subject of Lucid Living and The Science of Happiness which now form a small but significant part of his teaching schedule.
In early 2013 Charlie signed a worldwide publishing deal with the esteemed Hay House for his book “Dreams of Awakening”. The book is based on 12 years of personal experience, cutting edge neuroscience and some great Tibetan dream yoga teachings, the book provides a synthesis of the finest dream practices that the East and West has to offer. “Dreams of Awakening” is available for pre-order now and is officially released in November 2013. Charlie has had the pleasure to co-facilitate joint dreamwork workshops with some great teachers including Tim Freke, Robert Waggoner, John Lockley, Rob Nairn and Ya’Acov Darling Khan.
Before being asked to teach lucid dreaming Charlie had done an honours degree in dramaturgy which led him to work as an actor, scriptwriter, poet and even rapper in a Buddhist hip hop group! To hear one of Charlie’s poetry pieces watch this video:
Alongside this he was also the manager and company director of a collective of break-dancers and hip hop artists called THROWDOWN UK who have toured extensively round Europe. Although Charlie is now teaching full time he still has strong links to the hip hop dance and music scene as discussed here in his YouTube video Hip hop and Spirituality
Charlie lives at Kagyu Samye Dzong Buddhist Centre with his fiancée Jade and in his free time he likes practising martial arts (he has a 1st Dan blackbelt in kick-boxing), Parkour, and going surfing!
